TripCalc is a free, ad-free travel calculator app with live currency conversion, card fee profiles, and a range of unit conversion and travel tools. This policy explains what information the app uses and how it is handled.

Information we collect

We do not collect any personal information. The app does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address, location, or any other identifying information.

Camera and photos

The receipt scanner feature uses your device camera to capture photos of receipts or price tags. Photos are processed entirely on your device using Google's ML Kit text recognition library — they are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored anywhere outside your device. Each photo exists only in memory for the duration of the scanning session and is discarded when you close the scanner.

The app requests camera permission only when you first tap the camera icon. If you decline, the receipt scanner is unavailable but all other features continue to work normally.

Data stored on your device

The following data is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to us:

• Your selected home and local currencies
• Recently used currencies
• Any custom exchange rates you have set (global or per card)
• Card profiles you have created, including fee percentages and minimum fee amounts
• Calculation and conversion history, including any notes you have added
• Size converter preferences (selected countries and categories)
• App preferences (theme, accent colour, haptic feedback, tab visibility, tip percentage, fuel units)
• Receipt scanner setting (whether currency conversion is shown in the scanner overlay)

All data stays on your device. Uninstalling the app removes it completely.

Network requests

The app fetches exchange rate data from open.er-api.com, a third-party exchange rate service. These requests contain no personal data — only a standard HTTP request for the latest USD-based rates. Please refer to the ExchangeRate-API terms of service for details on how they handle requests.

Rates are cached on your device for up to 24 hours to minimise network usage. The app remains fully functional offline using the most recently cached rates.

Third-party services

The app uses no analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or crash reporting tools. The external services used are:

• open.er-api.com — exchange rate data, as described above. No personal data is sent.
• Google ML Kit Text Recognition — on-device OCR library used by the receipt scanner. All processing happens locally on your device; no image data or text results leave the app. See Google ML Kit terms for details on the SDK itself.

Children's privacy

This app does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. It contains no user accounts, social features, or data collection of any kind.

Changes to this policy

If this policy is updated, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated date at the top of the page.
